One of the most commonly known conditions where surgery is needed is impacted teeth or wisdom teeth. They are essentially third molars that emerge from the gum line. When the jaw does not have enough space for these molars to come out, they become entrapped or “impacted” between the jaw bone and gum tissue. Prolonged entrapment leads to swelling, pain, and infection in the surrounding gum tissue. If left untreated, impacted wisdom teeth can cause permanent damage to nearby teeth and gums. Therefore, it is crucial to have them surgically removed.

Orthognathic or jaw surgery may be needed for patients who endured trauma to their jaw causing severe misalignments. Surgery is done to help correct and reposition the teeth and the jaw to make sure they function properly
